Review: City of Ashes

Title: City of Ashes (Mortal Instruments, #2)
Author: Cassandra Clare
Publisher: Simon & Schuster
Release Date:   March 25th 2008
Format: Paperback (Borrowed)
City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments, #2) Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. But what's normal when you're a demon-slaying Shadowhunter, your mother is in a magically induced coma, and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind, it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon, who's becoming more than a friend. But the Shadowhunting world isn't ready to let her go — especially her handsome, infuriating, newfound brother, Jace. And Clary's only chance to help her mother is to track down rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil — and also her father.
To complicate matters, someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children. Is Valentine behind the killings — and if he is, what is he trying to do? When the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to investigate and zooms right in on Jace. How can Clary stop Valentine if Jace is willing to betray everything he believes in to help their father?
City of Ashes is yet another sequel in a series that I absolutely love. Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instrument series is so interesting and gripping, that I can hardly put it down.

I picked up the first book because the description sounded unique and interesting...and because there was a hot guy on the cover. However, once I read the book, I fell in love with even more. This book, City of Ashes, was just as good if not better than the first one.

Of course the plot is really good. That goes without saying. However, the number one thing I love in that book is Jace. He makes me laugh and he uses witticisms that I would love to be able to spew at the right moment. He is what makes the story for me.

Simon...I liked him int he first book, but now....not so much. I feel bad for Clary, because it seems that she's slowly losing her best friend.

Over all, its a really good book and I still recommend reading this series. On to the third book!

I gave it FIVE out of FIVE sporks

"Waiting On" Wednesday: Goddess Interrupted

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

Goddess Interrupted (Goddess Test #2)
by Aimee Carter
Release Date:  March 27th 2012
Publisher: HarlequinTeen

From Goodreads;
Goddess Interrupted (Goddess Test, #2)Kate Winters has won immortality.

But if she wants a life in the Underworld with Henry, she’ll have to fight for it.

Becoming immortal wasn’t supposed to be the easy part. Though Kate is about to be crowned Queen of the Underworld, she’s as isolated as ever. And despite her growing love for Henry, ruler of the Underworld, he’s becoming ever more distant and secretive. Then, in the midst of Kate’s coronation, Henry is abducted by the only being powerful enough to kill him: the King of the Titans.

As the other gods prepare for a war that could end them all, it is up to Kate to save Henry from the depths of Tartarus. But in order to navigate the endless caverns of the Underworld, Kate must enlist the help of the one person who is the greatest threat to her future.

Henry’s first wife, Persephone.

Comments;

The first book, Goddess Test, was a really interesting read. I remember reading it and thinking that I couldn't wait to read the sequel. And here it is! Sounds really good too. I'm not sure if I like the cover or not....the title font is super pretty, but something about the model and such doesn't work for me.

What do you think?
