"Waiting On" Wednesday: Breathe

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

Breathe
by Sarah Crossan
Release Date: October 2nd 2012
Publisher: GreenWillow
From Goodreads;

Breathe (Breathe, #1)Inhale. Exhale. Breathe. Breathe. Breathe . . .

The world is dead.
The survivors live under the protection of Breathe, the corporation that found a way to manufacture oxygen-rich air.

ALINA
has been stealing for a long time. She’s a little jittery, but not terrified. All she knows is that she’s never been caught before. If she’s careful, it’ll be easy. If she’s careful.

QUINN
should be worried about Alina and a bit afraid for himself, too, but even though this is dangerous, it’s also the most interesting thing to happen to him in ages. It isn’t every day that the girl of your dreams asks you to rescue her.

BEA
wants to tell him that none of this is fair; they’d planned a trip together, the two of them, and she’d hoped he’d discover her out here, not another girl.

And as they walk into the Outlands with two days’ worth of oxygen in their tanks, everything they believe will be shattered. Will they be able to make it back? Will they want to?

Comments;

This book makes me think of a cross between The Maze Runner by James Dashner and The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It has an interesting world, that's for sure. Whether it will be a great book, I can't tell. But the cover is interesting! :D

"Waiting On" Wednesday: Ironskin

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

Ironskin
by Tina Connolly
Release Date: October 2012
Publisher: Tor Books
From Goodreads;

Ironskin (Ironskin, #1)Jane Eliot wears an iron mask.

It's the only way to contain the fey curse that scars her
cheek. The Great War is five years gone, but its scattered victims remain -- the ironskin.

Now Jane returns to the war-torn country to help a fey-cursed child. Helping the unruly Dorie suppress her curse is hard enough -- she certainly didn't expect to fall for the girl's father, the enigmatic artist Mr. Rochart. But her blossoming crush is stifled by her own scars, and by his parade of women. Ugly women, who enter his closed studio -- and come out as beautiful as the fey.

Jane knows he cannot love her, just as she knows that she must wear iron for the rest of her life. But what if neither of these things are true? Step by step Jane must unlock the secrets of her new life -- and discover just how far she will go to become whole again
.

Comments;

I love anything fey related so this was an instant attention-grabber for me. The description sounds genuinely intriguing. I also really like the cover from the swirly smoke to her shoes. Something about the mask is off to me, but not hideously so that it ruins the face. Normally, I wouldn't like the font colour for the title but I don't mind it in this case because it really makes it pop out here. This seems like a book I'd pick up in B&N and buy. :]

"Waiting On" Wednesday: The Selection

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

 The Selection
The Selection (The Selection, #1)
by Kiera Cass
Release Date: April 24th 2012
Publisher: HarperTeen
From Goodreads;
For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in the palace and compete for the heart of the gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself- and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

Comments;

The description sounds REALLY good to me. It seems like it's a story crossed between The Hunger Games and Cinderella, which sounds like it would make an intriguing progeny.  Cover wise, I think it looks super pretty. I love the colours. I also love how it doesn't look like it's photoshopped in. It looks like a picture taken at an actual location. What I don't like is the small 'the' placed next to the fancy crown thing. It throws off the whole symmetry. But that's just the cover. I imagine the book will be far greater.

Seriously.  I would love a poster of it. It looks so elfy and pretty. And anyone who knows me, knows I love elves. So, to say I'm looking forward to this book is a bit of an understatement. :D

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

Dead to You

His reintroduction to his old life isn't going smoothly, and his family is tearing apart all over again. Comments;

I like Lisa McMann's stories. They're easy to read and they usually have a great plot. I would love to read this, considering her writing style. I also wonder how the cover has anything to do with the story....?

"Waiting On" Wednesday: Slide

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

Slide
by Jill Hathaway
Release Date: March 27th 2012
Publisher: Balzer + Bray for HarperCollins

From Goodreads;
SlideVee Bell is certain of one irrefutable truth—her sister’s friend Sophie didn’t kill herself. She was murdered.

Vee knows this because she was there. Everyone believes Vee is narcoleptic, but she doesn’t actually fall asleep during these episodes: When she passes out, she slides into somebody else’s mind and experiences the world through that person’s eyes. She’s slid into her sister as she cheated on a math test, into a teacher sneaking a drink before class. She
learned the worst about a supposed “friend” when she slid into her during a school dance. But nothing could have prepared Vee for what happens one October night when she slides into the mind of someone holding a bloody knife, standing over Sophie’s slashed body.

Vee desperately wishes she could share her secret, but who would believe her? It sounds so crazy that she can’t bring herself to tell her best friend, Rollins, let alone the police. Even if she could confide in Rollins, he has been acting off lately, more distant, especially now that she’s been spending more time with Zane.

Enmeshed in a terrifying web of secrets, lies, and danger and with no one to turn to, Vee must find a way to unmask the killer before he or she strikes again.

Comments;

Slide sounds like very original and interesting read. It's description is simple, yet it's plot sounds good. And the cover is really pretty. :D

I love paranormal books, romance or no, and this definitely falls into that zone. I think the cover is nice; it definitely draws you in. Can't wait to get my hands on this!
